Tuscany has grown into something of a mecca for cyclists and with beautiful undulating landscapes and perfect vistas around every corner it is not difficult to see why.
The unmade “white roads” have now been made famous by the Strade Bianche race each Spring and in October the same roads host the classic L’Eroica ride that has been running since 1997.
Starting and finishing in the commune of Gaiole in Chianti, this amateur race is a festival that celebrates traditional bicycles, and retro enthusiasts take to the roads on their vintage bikes and in vintage dress to enjoy a celebratory day out in the Tuscan countryside.
Borgo Argiano lies directly on the route of L’Eroica and is a perfect base for cycling enthusiasts wanting to cycle the different options, from the leisure route (46km) to the long route (209km).
Or you can even come in the first weekend of October and watch the spectacle as it unfolds in front of the gate (it’s not always pretty as we are at the top of a steep climb!).
